Hand & Upper Extremity Care

Your hands, wrists, forearms, and elbows play an essential role in everyday movement from working and exercising to completing simple daily tasks. When pain, injury, numbness, or weakness affects your upper extremities, even routine activities can become difficult. Early orthopedic care can help relieve pain, restore mobility, and prevent long-term complications.

At The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics, our Hand and Upper Extremity specialists provide expert diagnosis and advanced treatment for conditions affecting the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow. Using specialized orthopedic expertise, advanced imaging, and personalized treatment plans, our team focuses on restoring strength, mobility, and function so you can return to the activities you enjoy.

Because the upper extremity contains a complex network of bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles, and nerves, accurate diagnosis and specialized care are essential. Our orthopedic specialists carefully evaluate your symptoms, activity level, and lifestyle goals to develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs and recovery.

Conditions Treated

Our orthopedic specialists diagnose and treat a wide range of hand, wrist, and elbow conditions, including:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Compression of the median nerve in the wrist that can cause hand numbness, tingling, weakness, and pain, especially in the thumb and fingers.
  • Hand and Wrist Arthritis
Both osteoarthritis (wear and tear) and rheumatoid arthritis (autoimmune) can affect the hand and wrist joints, causing pain, stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility.
  • Trigger Finger
Inflammation of a finger tendon that can cause the finger to catch, click, or lock when bending or straightening.
  • De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis
Inflammation of the tendons along the thumb side of the wrist, often causing pain when gripping, lifting, or turning the wrist.
  • Dupuytren’s Contracture
A condition where tissue beneath the skin of the palm thickens and tightens, causing one or more fingers to bend toward the palm.
  • Hand and Wrist Fractures
Broken bones in the hand or wrist that commonly occur from falls, sports injuries, or trauma.
  • Tendonitis
Inflammation of the tendons in the hand or wrist caused by overuse or repetitive motion, leading to pain, tenderness, and weakness.
  • Ganglion Cysts
Fluid-filled lumps that commonly develop along the wrist joints or tendons, sometimes causing discomfort or restricted movement.
  • Wrist Sprains
Ligament injuries caused by sudden twisting or impact, leading to pain, swelling, bruising, and instability.

Treatment Options

Whenever possible, our specialists begin with conservative, non-surgical treatments designed to reduce pain and restore function. Treatment options may include:

  • Physical or occupational therapy
  • Splinting or bracing
  • Anti-inflammatory medications
  • Corticosteroid injections
  • Activity modification and rehabilitation
